How it started

Starting in 2019 as an extracurricular program offered during lunch time to engage with students evolved into a yearlong elective course at McLain High School. In which has became our flagship location.

Tulsa McLain Records (TMC Records) is the first hip-hop based music industry course held at McLain High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma that focuses on songwriting, recording, performance and event production.

What we do

We empower high school students to explore the history of hip-hop and the music industry from its birth in 1973 to today—through a 9month, hands-on curriculum.

Each week blends historical insights with practical industry training, culminating in a collaborative album, multimedia rollout, and live concert, preparing students for careers in music and other industry based careers.

What we Create

During the 9-month school year, TMC Records produces a 12-track collaborative album, 4 music videos, 4 on-campus events, original social media content, and custom merchandise

In April 2024, students released their debut album TMC World on all major streaming platforms, alongside their own merchandise line. In May 2025, they followed up with their sophomore album The 49th Floor, also available worldwide.

By showcasing the creativity of Tulsa McLain High School’s student body, TMC Records is helping the school gain recognition beyond athletics empowering young artists to express themselves and preparing them for success in the music industry.

Impact on our students

ACADEMIC ACCOUNTABILITY & RESPONSIBILITY

Students must maintain at least a C average and 75% attendance

to remain eligible for TMC activities—encouraging academic

consistency, personal responsibility, and pride in participation.

CREATIVE SKILL DEVELOPMENT

The program fosters creativity, teamwork, and confidence in students

who previously lacked access to platforms that recognized their

talents and leadership potential.

EMPOWERING STUDENT VOICES

TMC Records gives students a powerful platform to express their

stories, perspectives, and creativity. Through songwriting,

performance, and leadership opportunities, students find their

authentic voices and learn to share them confidently with their peers,

school, and broader community. This empowerment fosters self-

worth, encourages critical thinking, and inspires students to become

advocates for themselves and others—turning personal experiences

into impactful art and positive change.

Where were going

DESIRED ACHIEVE DATE: by start of ‘26 -’27 school year

We aim to expand into other Tulsa Public Schools starting with

Webster High School and later Memorial and Central High School.

This growth will open doors for more students to experience

hands-on creative education while also helping raise academic performance across the district.

Building a Creative Career Pipeline through partnerships with local studios, colleges, and entertainment industry leaders.

Launching an off campus studio site to bring music production tools and mentorship to scholars outside of the McLain network.

DESIRED ACHIEVE DATE: 2026-2027 school year We envision fostering healthy district-wide competition, where students from different schools can compete for annual honors such as Album of the Year, Top Performer, and Top Producer. These recognitions modeled after athletic honors can be powerful résumé builders and boost postsecondary and career opportunities for students pursuing creative paths in the entertainment industry.
